On the afternoon of January 23, 2025, 40-year-old Ronald Lawrence Junior McCook walked away from a residence on Kenny Dam Road in the Saik’uz First Nation Reserve, just outside Vanderhoof, British Columbia. He was believed to be heading south toward the Saik’uz General Store. It was the last time anyone could say with certainty where he was.
Ronald, who was born on June 14, 1984, was well known within the Saik’uz community. Standing 5 feet 11 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes, he was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt, a grey baseball cap, and blue jeans. At first, there was little reason to believe anything was wrong. But as the days passed and Ronald failed to return or make contact with those who cared about him, concern quickly grew.
One week later, on January 30, 2025, Ronald was officially reported missing to the Vanderhoof RCMP. What began as a search for a missing community member soon became a police investigation. Officers gathered information about Ronald’s last known movements and appealed to the public for help. Investigators confirmed that the last verified sighting placed him leaving a residence in the 100 block of Kenny Dam Road, walking toward the local general store. After that, his trail disappeared.
As investigators worked to reconstruct his movements, they made a request. The RCMP asked residents and motorists to review security camera footage and dash camera recordings captured between January 21 and January 25, 2025, in and around the Saik’uz First Nation. Detectives hoped that even a brief image of Ronald—or an unfamiliar vehicle or person might provide the clue needed to determine where he went after leaving the residence that day. Despite those efforts, no publicly confirmed sightings have ever been announced.
Months passed without answers. The Vanderhoof RCMP continued following leads and encouraged anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to come forward. Yet the mystery surrounding Ronald’s disappearance remained unchanged.
In October 2025, nearly nine months after he vanished, investigators renewed their public appeal. The decision to issue another plea underscored a painful reality: Ronald had still not been found, and police believed someone may hold information that could help solve the case.
To date, investigators have released very few details about the circumstances surrounding Ronald’s disappearance. Police have not publicly stated whether they believe foul play was involved, nor have they explained why Ronald never arrived at his intended destination. His disappearance remains an active missing person investigation.
As of today, Ronald Lawrence Junior McCook is still listed as a missing person by both the RCMP National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains and the Vanderhoof RCMP. For his family, friends, and the Saik’uz First Nation community, the questions remain the same as they were on the day Ronald disappeared. Where did he go after leaving Kenny Dam Road? Did someone see him walking toward the store? Does someone know what happened after that final confirmed sighting?
Until those questions are answered, Ronald’s family continues to wait, hoping that one piece of information—no matter how small—will finally reveal what happened on that January afternoon and help bring him home.
