Details: Lixian “Leanne” Tan was 29 years old when she disappeared in September 2024. She had been living in Kitchener, Ontario, but the trail surrounding her disappearance would ultimately lead more than 100 kilometres away to the Niagara Falls area.

According to Canada’s Missing, Leanne left her residence in Kitchener on September 19, 2024. Very little has been made public about the circumstances surrounding her departure. It is not publicly known why she left, where she intended to go, how she was travelling, or whether she had plans to meet anyone.

What is known is that sometime after leaving Kitchener, Leanne travelled to Niagara Falls, Ontario. She was last observed in the Niagara Falls area, and her official missing date is listed as September 20, 2024.

The difference between the date she left Kitchener and her official missing date does not necessarily represent a discrepancy. It appears that Leanne left home on September 19 and was subsequently observed in Niagara Falls, making September 20 the date associated with her disappearance.

Unfortunately, the circumstances of that final observation have not been publicly explained in detail. Authorities have not said exactly where in Niagara Falls Leanne was last seen, what time she was observed, who saw her, or whether that information came from a witness, surveillance footage, or another investigative source.

There is another unanswered question about how Leanne reached Niagara Falls in the first place. The publicly available information does not say whether she drove, took a bus or train, travelled with someone else, or used another form of transportation. There has also been no public explanation for why she went to Niagara Falls.

After that final observation, the trail appears to end.

Leanne was born in 1994 and was 29 years old when she disappeared. She is described as an Asian woman with a light or fair complexion. She is approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed about 99 pounds at the time of her disappearance. She has a slender build, brown eyes and long black hair.

There are also two identifying marks listed in her official missing-person record. Leanne has a mole on her left cheek and another mark on the right side of her mouth.

Several pieces of clothing and personal belongings are associated with her case. These include a white-and-black coat, white running shoes, glasses, a pink backpack and a green purse. The publicly available case information does not make completely clear whether investigators know she was carrying or wearing every one of these items when she was last observed in Niagara Falls.

What makes Leanne’s disappearance particularly difficult to understand is how little information has been released about those crucial final hours. We know that she left Kitchener on September 19. We know that she made it to Niagara Falls. We know that she was observed there and is considered missing as of September 20.

What we don’t know is why she went there or what happened afterward.

There is no publicly available information indicating that Leanne had planned a vacation in Niagara Falls, was visiting someone, had booked accommodations, was meeting another person, or intended to continue travelling somewhere else. There also does not appear to be publicly released information about her cellphone activity or whether any of her belongings were subsequently recovered.

There is no publicly released evidence establishing that Leanne was the victim of foul play. Conversely, there is not enough information available to conclude that she intentionally disappeared. Without additional evidence, either explanation would be speculation.

More than a year after Leanne disappeared, the public trail still ends in Niagara Falls. Somewhere between leaving her home in Kitchener and that final observation, there may be information that explains what Leannewas doing, where she was headed, or who she may have encountered. For now, those details remain outside the public record.

As today, Lixian “Leanne” Tan’s whereabouts remain unknown.
