The Unsolved Murder of Candice Sollen

Candice Sollen was a 23 year old Indigenous Canadian woman who was murdered in Toronto in 1998.

On Monday, December 14, 1998, police responded to a suspicious death at 30 Bond Street. The victim, Candice Sollen was stabbed on Friday, December 11, 1998, around 9:48 pm, in the area of 155 Sherbourne Street in Toronto. She was located at St. Michael’s Hospital on December 14, 1998, having succumbed to her injuries.

Candice, often called “Candy” by those who knew her, grew up in Fort Erie, Ontario, where she was a dedicated tennis player before moving to Toronto, Ontario.

Candice’s case has been highlighted at vigils to remember missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada. Family and friends continue to seek justice and keep her story alive.

The Toronto Police Service continues to investigate cold cases using new opportunities in investigative techniques and advancements in scientific methods, and they encourage the public to provide any information they might have.
