Details: Dana disappeared from her residence on August 30, 1999. She lived with her mother in an east-end Hamilton apartment. Her mother last saw Dana sleeping in her bedroom at 2:30 a.m., August 30, 1999. When her mother woke later that morning, Dana was gone. She left behind all personal items, including her identification, money, clothing, and essential medication.
Dana has had connections to the Greater Toronto and Brooklyn, NY areas and the police were told she might have gone to Brooklyn but they found no proof she crossed the border. Dana was shown in a September 17, 1999 Spectator photo, walking in a Take Back the Night march. For over 20 years, police and family believed the photograph from that “Take Back the Night” march featured Dana. However, Hamilton Police Service eliminated this lead in 2020 after the actual women in the photo came forward to identify themselves. In August 2000 she called a male friend in Hamilton, who had no idea she was missing. She told her friend she was living in Mississauga. In 2002, one of Dana’s old girlfriends called police and said she had seen the young woman at Chapters. Despite these sightings, she has not been located.

Dana was born and raised in Hamilton, along with her younger brother, she was a “so-so” student who enjoyed drama, had a good number of friends and a love of books. Dana graduated from Delta Secondary School and took a few years off to travel. Dana did enroll in a tourism program at a downtown vocational school. She lived with a boyfriend for a while, but when that didn’t work out, she moved back into her mother’s small east-Hamilton apartment. Dana had plans to get her own place, at the time of her disappearance. Police checks have failed to locate Dana’s whereabouts. Police are concerned for her well being.
Dana had been living with her boyfriend prior to late August 1999. Dana had a boyfriend who she was living with, but the pair broke up and Dana had been staying at her mom’s place for about a week when she disappeared. She hadn’t been sleeping well and was losing weight. Following the split, Dana moved back into her mother’s apartment on the Hamilton Mountain.
Dana’s former boyfriend has never been publicly named by law enforcement or media coverage.

Detective Chris Gates contacted Ontario Provincial Police who did a rendering of what Dana might look like now. There were two images, one smiling, one a resting face. Dana’s mother Biljana likes the smiling photo better.
