Details About Shelley’s Case: Shelley’s missing date is listed as May 20, 2007 by the RCMP. A neighbor last the last time they saw her was May 10, 2007. Shelley’s daughter Robin reported her missing on July 29, 2007. Shelley and her boyfriend Thomas Moffit moved to Sarnia in a attempt stay clear of drugs. Shelley had issues with substance abuse. Her daughter is quoted as saying,
“She was a good person. She did use drugs but she was a good person and was not a drug person who lived on the street.”

Her boyfriend Thomas Moffat was arrested in August of 2007 in downtown London, Ontario. His sister Kathy Long was charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Police are asking landowners in southeast Lambton County and western Middlesex County to check their property for human remains or signs of a recent burial. The search was concentrated on Churchill Road between Wyoming and Watford. Investigators believe a black Ford F250 pickup truck was used to dump Shelley’s body in the area sometime after May 10, 2007. This truck belonged to Moffat’s sister Kathy Long. Along with the truck, Moffit borrowed a wheelbarrow and a shovel and was gone most of day and into the night. When he returned to Long’s home in Wyoming, she drove him back to Sarnia, with two stops.

At one, he threw a blanket Long had bought for the couple in a creek. Then he took off his pants and the work boots his sister had bought him and put them in a ditch. He had another pair of pants in the truck.

Following a trial by judge and jury, Thomas Moffit, was convicted of second degree murder for the death of his domestic partner, Ms. Shelley Marie Mathieu-Read, and was sentenced to life imprisonment without eligibility for parole for at least 17 years.

Shelley has not been seen or heard from since 2007. Her remains have never been located.
