Details: Cyril Detimmerman and a friend left Brandon, Manitoba, on April 10, 1976 on the Assiniboine River to travel to Treherne. Cyril was experienced in navigating the river, but the water levels were very high due to spring flooding. The pair soon encountered strong currents and large amounts of debris in the river. While attempting to navigate to shore, the boat capsized, sending both men into the water. Both men were wearing life jackets. Extensive searches were conducted by land, air, water and dragging operations for several miles along the river, all with negative results. Cyril was never found and is presumed dead from drowning.
