Susan was last seen alive on December 16, 1984, at approximately 8:00pm in the area of Isabella and Sherbourne Streets. Her body was found the following morning, December 17, 1984, at about 7:30am. She was discovered on a sidewalk on Ethel Avenue near Dods Avenue, an industrial area near the former west-end stockyards and railway tracks. Susan had been strangled with a ligature. Due to the lack of clothing on her body when found, investigators believe she was murdered at a different location and later dumped on the sidewalk.
Detectives have explored potential links between Susan’s death and four other similar strangulation murders in Toronto during that period. A young man in a small truck was reportedly seen in the area where she was last spotted entering a vehicle.
Various podcasts and cold case investigators have named potential suspects, including convicted killer Gregory George Ashford and Daniel Harvey Atkinson, though no formal charges have ever been laid in Susan’s case.
