Location: Prince Albert, SK
Date of birth: August 2, 1932
Madeline was last seen alive: October 21, 1981
Madeline was last seen in the evening of October 21, 1981, at the Broadway Hotel in downtown Prince Albert getting into an unidentified vehicle. Madeline was reported missing the following day by her family. Her remains were found three and a half years later, on May 5, 1985, in a rural farmer’s field approximately eight miles east and one mile south of Prince Albert. Her identity was confirmed through her clothing, shoes, and a family ring.
Her death was ruled a result of foul play, but the case remains unsolved. In August 2016, the case was officially designated a “historical case” and assigned to the Historical Case Unit of the RCMP in Saskatoon.
Madeline’s brother & daughter have testified about her case at the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) to seek justice and closure.
After her remains were recovered, her family held a traditional funeral to lay her to rest at the Sturgeon Lake First Nation. She is frequently remembered on Red Dress Day by the Saskatchewan RCMP to honor the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women.
