Details: Eetu was believed to have been in the Thunder Bay area between 1928 and 1935. Official records list November 15, 1935 as his last known date that he was see, while other sources suggest he may have been seen as late as 1936. Originally from Valkeala, Finland, Eetu immigrated to Canada in June 1928, arriving in Quebec from Southampton, England aboard a ship. He was recorded as a laborer at the time of his immigration. Eetu had no known family in Canada and traveled from Finland to Canada on his own.
Historical researchers have attempted to identify a specific “G S” logo found on a photo supposedly of Eetu Vainonen to determine if it belonged to a local railroad or shipping company in the Thunder Bay area. Personal Opinion: It’s likely a passport stamp on the photo
