Kimlyn was a 19-year-old mother from Hamilton, Ontario. She was last seen alive late on August 23 or early August 24, 2002, getting out of a red pickup truck near Main Street and Grant Street in Hamilton. Her naked and battered body was found by a city worker on August 29, 2002, in Kerncliffe Park on Kerns Road “lovers lane” in Burlington. A post-mortem examination determined she died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Kimlyn was a former track star who had been living a transient lifestyle in downtown Hamilton at the time of her death.
In November 2002, a joint task force between the Hamilton and Halton police services was formed to investigate Kimlyn’s murder along with the disappearances of Susan Gourley and Felicia Floriani, and approximately 13 other violent attacks on sex workers. Law enforcement initially believed that a serial predator might be responsible for these crimes due to similar geographic patterns and methods of attack. Over 200 leads were investigated. While several men were arrested for other attacks on sex workers during that period—including John Earl Crouse and later student Najim Khairzad but none of them were conclusively linked to Kimlyn’s murder.
