Details: Curtis was traveling with a friend, Shane Letkeman, whose body was found in Kalamalka Lake on June 28, 2015. Shane’s death was not considered suspicious by police, with a coroner’s report suggesting it was part of a suicide pact. Curtis had travelled from Alberta to British Columbia in a black rental car, model Chrysler 200 which was later found abandoned in the Cosens Bay area near where Shane’s body was discovered.
Police conducted extensive air, land, and water searches, focusing on Kalamalka Lake, as all indications pointed to Curtis being in the water. A specialized Idaho couple known for body recovery also assisted with sonar searches, but his body has never been found.
Curtis’ family, particularly his sister, has been vocal in questioning the suicide pact theory and continue to search for answers. They have made several trips to the area.
The coroner said that both Shane and ‘the other male’ had sent messages to family and friends ‘alluding to suicide, saying goodbye, and that they loved them. Curtis’ family say that they did not receive any of the alleged messages. Curtis’ girlfriend received a message however it could be interpreted in more than one way. Since Curtis’ body has not been located, that determination should not have been made.
Personal note: How can you base a person as deceased by suicide by one text message with multiple possible interpretations and no examination of a body? I feel like that’s quite a leap to make.
