Edited to add: Michael did not have a life insurance policy and he did not hire someone to kill her. It is strongly believed that Michael was definitely the intended target due to whatever he was involved in. Dianna had said she felt uneasy and wanted to leave. She may have seen someone or something that caused her concern. The specific reason why is unknown.
Dianna Sandeman was the victim of an unsolved murder that occurred in Etobicoke, Ontario, on Wednesday July 5, 2006 at approximately 2:13am. She was a 27-year-old travel agent and was shot while sitting Inside a black BMW parked outside the Europa Cafe & Sports Bar at 376 Browns Line in Etobicoke with her boyfriend.

Dianna and her boyfriend, Michael Dennett, were leaving the Europa Sports Bar when a gunman approached the passenger side of their vehicle and opened fire through the open window. Dianna was killed, while Michael survived his injuries which were wounds to his leg and abdomen. Dianna’s cause of death was a single gunshot wound to her head.
Police believe the couple was specifically targeted, and the shooting was not a random act. Investigators suspect the killer waited outside the bar for up to two hours for them to emerge. The murder weapon, an unregistered handgun, was found nearby in a residential lawn and was traced back to a sporting goods store in Georgia, USA. The killer fled west on Burlingame Road to a waiting silver or grey car, possibly a Nissan Maxima or Pontiac Sunfire, indicating a planned hit with at least one other person involved.
Police investigated whether Michael Dennett’s background or associations were a motive, but a definitive link has not been established, and the killer has never been identified or caught. The Toronto Police Service Homicide Squad continues to investigate Dianna Sandeman’s murder.
