The Unsolved Murder of Evelyn Alfaro Mendez

Evelyn Alfaro Mendez, a 34-year-old mother of three from Mississauga, was found murdered in her vehicle in Toronto on January 4, 2009.

Evelyn was a hair stylist originally from El Salvador. She was last seen leaving her home around 7:30pm on the evening of Sunday, January 4, 2009. She told her family that she was headed to a nightclub. Police found her body in her 2005 Silver Ford Explorer around 11:32pm after a resident called police about an SUV that had been idling with its headlights on for a long period. Evelyn’s cause of death is a gunshot wound to the head.

The motive for the killing and why she was in that specific neighborhood remain a mystery. The vehicle’s engine was still running when police arrived, and no weapon was found at the scene. Homicide detectives have concentrated the investigation on her lifestyle and associates, but as of reports shortly after the murder, they had no suspects, motive, or murder weapon
