The Unsolved Murder of Rita Powder

On June 19, 1977, the body of a female was found in the brush on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, east of the low level bridge at the bottom of Grierson Hill

An autopsy was conducted and her identity was found to be Rita Powder.

Rita’s autopsy revealed that she had endured a violent sexual assault, was stabbed multiple times. She died from the stab wounds along with blunt force trauma to her head. Rita’s clothing was cut with a knife and scattered about the scene. A murder weapon was not found at the scene.

Sadly there is very little information about this case or about Rita and her life.
