Details: On the day of her disappearance, Magdalena met with her father, Miroslaw Jezak, for lunch at the intersection of Roncesvalles Avenue and Dundas Street West. She told her father that she was going to meet with her estranged husband at 6:00 pm later that evening. She dropped off her daughter, who lived with her father, at his parent’s home that evening.
Police said Magdalena’s missing persons report was just filed in November 2003 and foul play is not being ruled out. However, Magdalena’s father says he contacted police on several occasions, even going to four different police stations only to be sent home each time. He was told that “They checked on the computer that she had a driver’s license, that she lived close by and that’s it”. Det. Sgt. Brian O’Connor said aid there is no record of Miroslaw Jezak’s visits to the stations and that no reports were filed at those times, but follow-up checks will be made. “Our policy is that if somebody comes in and reports somebody missing, that a report will be taken.”
It appears that after not receiving any assistance from law enforcement between 2000 – 2003, the family hired an investigative agency to help find her, but they were not successful. A lot of the initial police work has been duplicating the work of the private investigators.
The Jezak’s family moved to Canada in 1995 and there is a language barrier. This in addition to the difference in how Polish law enforcement and Canadian law enforcement works may have contributed to the lack of police involvement between 2000 and 2003.
There had been conversations between Magdalena and her sister about her possibly moving to Florida, but it was just a conversation. No plans had been made. Magdalena married her husband and had her daughter in Canada. The couple were separated, but not formally divorced, when she disappeared. As of February 2004, Magdalenda’s daughter remains in the care of her estranged husband and his parents.
