Ian was last seen wearing: A reddish brown, leather bomber jacket, navy blue rugby pants, white and red, hi top, leather basketball shoes. He also wore a distinctive ring on his right hand.

Details: Ian was reported missing on October 25, 1984 at approximately 11:00pm. He was last seen by a family member on October 22 when he left his home on Manor Lane in Halifax in his red 1978 Plymouth Horizon TC3 hatchback with black interior (see photos below). He told that family member that he was going to meet some friends, possibly at the former Palace nightclub on Brunswick Street in Halifax. It is unknown if Ian actually made it to the nightclub. Ian and his vehicle have never been located.

Before Ian’s disappearance, he had graduated from a welding course in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and moved to Halifax in July 1984. He was employed in his trade for two weeks prior to his disappearance.

Law enforcement believes that there are people who have information about Ian’s disappearance and hope that with the passage of time that someone will come forward with what they know. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation into Ian’s disappearance.

Ian was driving his vehicle, a red 1978 Horizon TC3 Hatchback with a black interior and Nova Scotia license plate number 57-34-81. A blue ten-speed bicycle was in the back of MacKeigan’s car at the time of his disappearance. The front wheel of the bike had been removed.

Ian’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.
