Details about John’s case: John’s wife Slava spoke with him at 11:00 am on November 5, 2012 at The Burlington mall. John left the mall wearing appropriate clothing for the weather. At approximately 7:30 pm, Slava received a phone call from a woman on behalf of John. She could hear her husband in the background saying he was eating dinner at a restaurant in Niagara Falls, Ontario. John’s presence at the restaurant was confirmed.

It is believed that he was on foot, and is familiar with public transportation. His bike is missing but it’s not believed John made the 70-kilometre trek by bike. He is an avid cyclist who often would take his trusty bicycle, a silver-coloured mountain bike, for long rides around Burlington. Whether he took a train or bus to the Falls or hitchhiked, no one seems to know.

Halton police have indicated that John had unexpectedly left home and stayed away for days at a time. Slava disputed this. Months prior to John’s disappearance he had gone to Oshawa for a night but had called and said he was going to be home the next day – which he did.

Slava and John were both born in Croatia. They met in Australia in their early adult years and were soon married. Some time after their son was born with a birth defect and it was suggested to the Antics by a doctor they seek the help of Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. The family moved to Canada in 1973 and settled in Burlington. Slava described John as a bit of a loner with no close friends who didn’t belong to any clubs. He is neat and has a short attention span.

John has had no contact with his family or banking institutions since. There were no pre-existing medical, financial, domestic or mental health issues.
