Details about Sindy’s case: Sindy was last seen April 23, 2014 at the hospital in Val-d’Or, Québec. She had been beaten up and had multiple broken ribs. In her last conversation with family, she asked for money, it was a large amount and her mother, Émilie Ruperthouse Wylde, refused to give her the money. Sindy told her mother she would call again later, but never did. After Sindy’s family had not heard anything from her, they reported her missing on September 2, 2014 to the Sûreté du Québec of Amos

Her mother alleges she was beaten by her boyfriend. Her parents have accused the Sûreté du Québec of failing to take her disappearance seriously. Police only reopened Sindy’s case following an investigative report by Radio-Canada, saying they’re treating her case as a murder investigation. In June 2016, 50 volunteers searched the forest for her body, but didn’t find anything. In March 2018, her family shared her story at the MMIWG inquiry in Montreal. Sindy’s disappearance led to the discovery that many Indigenous women in Val-d’Or alleged abuse by the Sûreté du Québec.
