Details About Misty’s Case: Misty had earned her masters degree in environmental science and had taught at Yellowhead College for a time. Sadly after the passing of her brother and the end of her marriage, Misty’s path took a darker turn toward substance abuse. Misty’s sister and mother had convinced her to come hom to Alexis First Nation. As with most sobriety struggles, it was a difficult journey which lead to Misty leaving her family home in late February of 2015.

Just a few weeks later, Misty would vanish.

The RCMP has Misty as last seen on March 13, 2015 getting out of a vehicle on the side of Highway 43, according to law enforcement. The site also has March 16, 2015 as date of going missing. The Canada’s Missing website makes it sound like law enforcement spoke to the driver of the vehicle in question because it says “she had been left at the side of the road to walk a short distance home.”

The CBC database of The Missing & Murdered cases of Indigenous Women and Girls says that Misty was last seen in Enoch Cree Nation on March 14, 2015.

Misty was officially declared as a missing person on April 1, 2015.

Mayerthorpe RCMP is handling Misty’s case and is quoted as having “conducted ground searches around the area”.

The RCMP say Misty has ties to Manitoba however it is also possible she may have travelled to Edmonton or the lower mainland of British Columbia.

As with far too many cases of missing Indigenous people, law enforcement did not take this case seriously. They were slow to follow up on leads provided / suggested by the family. Misty’s sister insists that even when she was really struggling with her addiction, she kept in close contact with her son and would not willingly disappear. Because they did not listen to the family and made speculations instead, the family decided to conduct their own search for Misty.
