Carbon Jane Doe
Case reference
: 2016069642
Discovered on: April 21, 1995
Location: Near Carbon, Alberta, Canada
Estimated Age: 23 years to 40 years
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: She may be or appear to have been of north African ancestry or possibly of Indigenous or mixed ancestry
Height: 5ft 1in to 5ft 4in
Notable: Remains were skeletal upon discovery. She had several stainless-steel dental crowns and additional forms of restoration.

Details: On April 21, 1995 the skeletal remains were found in Carbon, Alberta. The post mortem indicated that her time of death was some time between 1980 – 1985. When she was alive, she had contracted a disease called brucellosis. Brucellosis is a bacterial disease caused by various Brucella species, which mainly infect cattle, swine, goats, sheep and dogs. Humans generally acquire the disease through direct contact with infected animals, by eating or drinking contaminated animal products or by inhaling airborne agents. Brucellosis is quite rare in Canada.

When her remains were located, there was no clothing or personal items. It is possible that they disintegrated over time. It is also possible that she was left there without either.

A clay reconstruction as done in 2019 to show what she may have looked like when she was alive.

It is also important to note that her cause of death has not been released.

Possible Lead – There was an outbreak in a meatpacking plant in Alberta in 1977. Between May & November 1978 there were six cases of the disease reported to the Alberta Worker’s Health, Safety & Compensation division. I think that if law enforcement was able to cross-reference the employees infected with this lady, they may find her name.
