The Unsolved Murder of Therena Adelin Silva Marsland

Therena Adelin Marsland (nee Silva), of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was 35 when her frozen and decomposed body was found along Templeton Avenue just east of Ritchie Street in northwest Winnipeg on December 15, 2002 by a man walking his dog. Her family last heard from her April 29, 2002, when she made a “very strange phone call” to her older sister in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Therena’s body was found in an area where other victims who were allegedly sex workers were discovered over the years, including Fonessa Bruyere (found in 2007) and Aynsley Kinch (found in 2007). While the proximity of these discoveries led to public fears of a serial killer, police have stated that evidence does not currently link her death to a single individual.

Project Devote, a task force dedicated to missing and murdered persons cases in Manitoba, is handling the homicide. There is a $5000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Therena’s murder.
